All osteopaths in the UK must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). GOsCX regulates the practice of osteopathy under the terms of the Osteopaths Act 1993. They hold a statutory duty to promote, develop and regulate the profession of osteopathy in the UK. It fulfils its duty to protect the interests of the public by ensuring that all osteopaths maintain high standards of safety, competence and professional conduct.
The Osteopaths Act 1993 protects the title of osteopath, meaning only those with a recognised qualification from an osteopathic teaching institution can call themselves an osteopath. This both protects the quality of the profession, but protects the public from potential harm from unqualified individuals. With these strict guidelines and high standards required for qualification, you can trust any osteopath that you see is fully competent at assessing and treating your condition.
Currently, there are over 5000 osteopaths registered and qualified in the UK. To find one near to you, click here.
